Born in Brooklyn, NY as Marjorie Jean Kucks, I moved to Long Island at nine months old. I attended the Oceanside schools from grades K-12, and graduated from Oceanside High School. From there I went to Cortland State University and graduated with a BS degree four years later. You have already noticed I’m leaving out the dates! After teaching dance and physical education at Wantagh High School for a few years, I attended graduate school at NYU and earned an MA degree in dance. Then off I went to teach dance at the University of Bridgeport. After meeting and marrying the theatre professor and getting my name changed to O’Neill-Butler, I moved to Vermont. While there my husband and I started and ran a summer theatre for twenty-four years called The Green Mountain Guild. Our best productions however were Derek Sean and Jason Howard O’Neill-Butler. Later our family moved to the South End in Boston so that the boys could attend private school. The summer theatre continued. Florida beckoned in 1989 and the family re-located to Miami Beach. The summer theatre continued. Uh oh, a divorce. I sought my freedom and happily left the marriage. Now the good news: I met and married Roger Martin and live happily ever after. I’ve been involved with theatre my whole life and am a proud member of the acting unions Equity, SAG and AFTRA and as a writer, the Dramatists Guild of America.
